Request for referrals
Though now I often talk about this as one of the most important things you should know when you enter the field of online marketing, I too discovered it quite late. It is because I regret finding it out so late that I want you all to discover it and utilize it as soon as you can.
So let us suppose you have applied all the points I have taught you up till now. You have paid attention, you have been direct, you have been attentive and viola! It worked for you and you got a client. Now you will apply all these throughout to satisfy him, gain his approval and by the end of his dealings with you, he is delighted with you. If you thank him for his appreciation and wave him goodbye, that is where you lost an entire fortune your cousins have made; not to mention a great chance to rise higher within the market.
So what did you do wrong here? You did not ask for referral from your happy customer! When you have clients, and they are considerably pleased with you, ask them for referrals. Ask them if they know someone who would be in search do your services too, someone whom they know that you should know too. You will be surprised to see how many clients you will begin receiving just through this system. This is a type of networking, where you use your contacts to meet up with strangers. You benefit from all these prospective clients greatly, earning more revenue than what you would have earned from just one customer.
Sometimes when I reflect at my olden days and think about how I missed this part out, I cringe at the idea of how any clients I have lost that I could have had. It is so disheartening that I do not give much thought to it! So what did I do to help myself? I began reminding myself constantly to ask for referrals. I wrote down reminders everywhere, on my bathroom mirror, stuck one on my phone so that I will remember to ask my clients this every time I spoke with them. Also, do not just ask once and then not ask again some time later if you receive a negative reply. Everyone keeps meeting new people, interacting with different businesses at conferences, meetings etc, and are bound to come in contact with people they can refer to you. So do repeat this some time later. And guess what? This is a cycle, you get referrals from the first client and then these referrals will further give you more referrals. Do you see where this is going? It is a continuous loop at times which reaps you great benefits.
Remember referrals only come to those who ask. It is very much one of the ‘Ask and you shall receive' things. So put post-it, reminders everywhere around you so you can begin generating revenue greater than ever!
