Courage…makes me think of the Lion from the Wizard of Oz. I loved that movie as a kid…I still love that movie.
How does courage come into play if you're a business owner? If you're a business owner, you have to take a leadership role. Taking on a leadership role can be daunting, and very challenging at times.
You need to have courage to face your fear. Maybe you have a fear of stepping out of your comfort zone like picking up the phone, (which feels like 1,000 labs.), and following up with a client. Because you're afraid of what they may say. Possibly it's a fear of loss, and you don't have the courage to move forward because you may lose a client, or a sale. Perhaps you have a fear of success and greatness. Deep inside you want success, but the fear of doing something you've never experienced is scary.
Yes, it can be scary because you're not familiar with what it's like. When ever you do something new, it's always a little awkward, but doesn't it feel GREAT when you made a choice to step out of your comfort zone. You realize it's not so bad, and you didn't die 🙂
Don't let the lack of courage from holding you back from what you really want out of life. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger…right? Life is way too short to watch it on the side lines. It's too short to say, “I wish I would have.” Do you really want to be laying on your death bed one day (in a long time from now) and say, “I wish I would have?”
Some of the biggest leaders have had the courage not to let their fear get in the way. If you are not willing to stare fear face to face…you won't be able to move forward. With great risk comes great reward, and it starts with courage.
Here are some traits of a great courageous leader:
They don't bail on their team and commit to put them before themselves.
They are willing to make the first move to step out of their comfort zone.
They help others by coaching them to step out of their comfort zone.
They inspire other to take the step to do things they wouldn't normally do.
They follow by example.
Moving forward with a strong faith that they are not going to fail and can see a bright future.
They are willing to change.
They are patient and know that something's take time.
They constantly are educating themselves. Those who learn the most…earn the most!
They never give up…never!
You have the courage to achieve greatness my friend. Just look into the mirror, think about how you feel when you truly want something, and use those feelings to be courageous. Don't let anyone get in the way of your dreams, goals, and passions. Because if you do, you are doing a disservice to yourself and the ones you love.
